Most people on a GLP-1 who take muscle preservation seriously start resistance training for the first time in years, on substantially reduced calories, while losing weight quickly. That combination produces more soreness than the same training would otherwise, and recovery capacity is genuinely reduced when energy intake is low.
Recovery tools have a real but modest role here. The evidence for percussive therapy and foam rolling supports short-term reductions in perceived soreness and improvements in range of motion. It does not support claims about accelerated muscle repair or lactic acid clearance. That is still worth something — less soreness means you are more likely to attend the next session, and consistency is what actually preserves muscle.

What the Evidence Actually Supports

Amplitude. The distance the head travels, and the specification that matters most. Ten to sixteen millimetres reaches muscle tissue; devices with 6 millimetres or less vibrate the skin and little else. Amplitude is frequently omitted from cheap listings, which is itself informative.
Stall force. How much pressure the device tolerates before the motor stops. Under about 20 pounds you cannot apply meaningful pressure to larger muscles like quadriceps or glutes.
Weight and noise. A device over about 2.5 pounds becomes hard to hold against your own back and shoulders. Brushless motors are considerably quieter, which matters more than expected for something used while watching television.
Battery life. Two hours or more of real use. Devices needing a charge after every session get abandoned in a drawer within a month.

What Matters More Than Any Tool
Protein intake and sleep are the two variables that actually determine recovery, and both are commonly compromised on a GLP-1 — protein because appetite is suppressed, sleep because rapid weight loss disrupts it for some people. No recovery device compensates for missing either.
Progression speed matters too. Most excessive soreness in the first two months comes from doing too much in the first session. Starting at two sets per movement and adding volume gradually produces far less soreness than any tool relieves.
