GLP-1 medications work by reducing how much you eat. That is the therapeutic mechanism, and it is also the reason micronutrient intake falls. Someone eating 1,800 calories a day of varied food generally meets their requirements; the same person eating 900 calories with a suppressed appetite for meat and vegetables often does not. Deficiencies that develop this way are slow, unspectacular and easy to attribute to the medication itself.

Vitamin B12. Reduced intake of meat, fish and dairy is common on GLP-1 medications, and B12 comes almost exclusively from animal foods. Because the liver holds several years of reserve, deficiency develops slowly and often presents as fatigue, tingling in the hands or feet, or difficulty concentrating — all easily mistaken for medication side effects.

Lipid panel. Triglycerides in particular tend to improve substantially with weight loss. Worth a baseline and a repeat to document the change, which is often more dramatic than patients expect.
Ferritin and iron. Reduced red meat intake lowers iron intake. Fatigue attributed to the medication is sometimes straightforward iron deficiency, and it is easily corrected once identified.
What Home Testing Does Well, and Where It Stops
Reputable at-home kits use CLIA-certified laboratories, the same ones physicians order from, and the analytical quality of the result is generally sound. The weak point is collection: an inadequate finger-prick sample, a delayed return in hot weather, or a test taken non-fasting when fasting was required will all produce a misleading number.
The larger limitation is interpretation. A result slightly outside a reference range means very little in isolation and a great deal in the context of your symptoms, medications and history. Home tests are best used to answer a specific question — is my B12 falling? — rather than as a general screen that produces a page of numbers nobody contextualises.

How to Use the Results Without Overreacting
Take fasting tests fasting, follow the collection instructions precisely, and return the sample the same day where the kit requires it. Most unreliable home results are collection failures, not laboratory failures.
Send every abnormal result to your prescriber rather than acting on it. Supplementing vitamin D without knowing your baseline, or taking iron when ferritin is normal, ranges from useless to harmful.
